The Coombe Maternity Hospital, delivering over 8,000 babies annually, is a digital leader in Irish healthcare. In 2024, despite having a legacy solution in place for two years, the hospital identified a need for a more specialised, localised approach to protect its Microsoft 365 environment. The goal was to move beyond standard protection to a model that prioritised Irish data residency, immutable security, and cost-efficiency.
The primary challenge was addressing the “Shared Responsibility Model” inherent in cloud services, where the burden of data backup sits solely with the customer. The Coombe required a solution to mitigate risks from accidental deletion and ransomware targeting Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams.
Their existing legacy system lacked the localised agility and dedicated focus on Data Sovereignty required for modern Irish healthcare, while also carrying a higher total cost of ownership that the hospital sought to optimise.
